I STILL WISH TO BE DRESSED IN PURPLE UNIFORM
AND UNPOLISHED SHOES THAN CAUSAL WEAR AND
FLIP-FLOPS, I STILL WISH TO BE IN A PLACE WHERE COURTYARD PUNISHMENTS
WERE FUN AND ONE LUNCHBOX WITH SIX HANDS GAVE MORE SATISFACTION!
I STILL WISH TO WAKE UP AT 6, WAIT FOR WHITE AND YELLOW SCHOOL VAN AND GO TO
A PLACE WHERE ENTRY GATE SHUTS AT 8 AM AND NOT AT 5 PM
I STILL WANT TO REACH AND WAIT FOR MY FRIENDS, CROSSED LEGS UNDER THE TREE RATHER
THAN IN ANY CAFÉ’S. I STILL WANT TO CHOOSE DISCIPLINE OVER FUN.
I STILL WANT TO CARRY A BAG FUll OF BOOKS, WHICH FELT LIGHTER THAN AN EMPTY HANDBAG!
I STILL WISH TO BE IN SCHOOL THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD.
AARUSHI KAUSHIK

Schooling seems the most difficult phase as a kid but as we grow up, we wake up to the realization that those were the most effortless days in one’s life. One’s schooling plays a detrimental role in molding their attitude. For most of you schooling would be the most carefree phase. I always cherish my schooling memories as those were the days when I did every silly thing that came to my mind. Troubling class mates, teachers and even principal of our school made those days much more exciting.
The friends we make, Knowing one another for more than for more than half our school life, growing up together, committing all silly crimes and having similar interests, builds the strongest bonds. Bunking the classes, hiding and chilling at our ‘place’, fighting but making lifetime memories, having lunch in between classes and those Christmas times-full of fun, frolic and education, those days make us feel nostalgic forever.

College life as indeed amazing but it was nothing compared to the life I had in school and I am going to cherish all my life.
So today when I was scrolling down my facebook wall and came across the ‘3 years ago memory from my farewell’ nostalgia hit me hard.

Here are 10 things which I miss and try to re-live from my care free days in a convent school, and I know you do too-

1. Prayer
No matter which religion we belong to,‘our father in heaven’ will always be the prayer we recite now and then.

2. The Christmas celebration –
Decorating the school, practicing for the play where the best part and also where the best excuse to miss the classes.

3. No worry about how to walk, sit or talk
We never had to shy about periods or the length of our skirts or hoe to sit and stand, cause there were no boys to creep us out. (we were given personality development books as farewell gifts cause our teachers believed we need them before we step in college)
4. Exploring the doom rooms, always a fantasy –
Always wondering where and how the students and staff members live and lowkey always wanted to experience that feeling, of living at school all the time, with our best friend off course!
5. Humming the hymns and carols, every time you hear them somewhere
No matter how many Bollywood or Hollywood songs we listen to, those carols and hymns always bring a calming feels.
6. Still call my teachers miss/ma’am every time I see them or talk about them
We all give nicknames to our teachers, make fun of them but once we realise that our journey is coming to an end we all wish if we did things differently, but where’s fun in that? We love and respect our teachers and are always thankful for what they made us into.
7. Believing in feminism and women power –
School is our second home, always and growing up there with all the professional and dominating women’s , becoming like them one day is a dream I am still working on.
8. I still believe the school is made on the graveyard
All the jokes and scary stories we have heard and made up are the things we still believe in.
9. Talking , laughing and crying about the same things with our gang, literally where time –
No matter how many times we talk about those times and things we did, they are never enough.

10. Candle light service –
The memory still gives me goose bumps! The all speech, tears and ending journey – as sad as that moment was it was the ceremony everyone were extremely excited for.

No matter how much you think you hate school,
You’ll miss it when you leave.
Cherish each and every moment as long as you can!
